Andy Furman

Listen Live: Monday - Friday 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Andy Furman has been a leading sports talk show personality in Cincinnati for 20 years.  Never afraid to tell it like it is his unparalleled knowledge of sports combined with a straightforward interview style and a biting sense of humor have attracted legions of fans and, at times, ruffled some feathers.

“I think people appreciate people who have an opinion and a backbone,” Furman says.  “I sometimes draw a line in the sand, but I don’t do it intentionally.  I read things in the press about how I’m abrasive, or I’m negative or I’m controversial.  No, I’m not.  Go to any corner tavern where three or four guys are getting together with a couple of beers and talking sports - - that’s what I’m doing.”

Born in Brooklyn, New York, Furman attended Hunter College and Columbia University, where he earned a BA and Masters Degree in education.  He taught intermediate school science for two years and managed high school baseball and basketball teams. While in New York, Furman wrote a sports column for a small newspaper called The Brooklyn Graphic.  His writing led to jobs as sports information director at St. Francis College in Brooklyn and later at Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Furman subsequently worked in public relations and marketing, first for the Fort Lauderdale Strikers soccer team, and later at horse race tracks throughout the country, ending up at Latonia Race Course in Northern Kentucky.  During his race track career, Furman was known for staging sensational promotions, including conducting his own wedding before a horse race at Latonia, in front of thousands of spectators.

Furman went to work as promotions director for a Cincinnati radio station, where he also hosted a Sunday morning sports program.  It was so successful that he began hosting his own nightly program, and went on to enjoy an unparalleled run of dominance in his timeslot over 59 quarterly rating periods.  Furman has interviewed some of the biggest names in sports, including Bobby Knight, “Red” Auerbach, Oscar Robertson, Pete Rose, Jim Tressel, Joe Paterno, Bobby Bowden, Marvin Lewis, and many more.

Andy Furman lives in Northern Kentucky with his wife and two children.  Once named the “number one sports talker” in Ohio by Ohio Magazine, he is pleased to join Real Talk 1160AM, where he says he looks forward to reconnecting with his fans.

“I think the sports scene here in Cincinnati is as big as any city in the country,” Furman says.  “The passion and love for sports here is tremendous.  I love that, and I think that’s what sparks the great conversations that we have on the radio.”
